What does a professional organizer do?
Most folks could probably guess what a professional organizer is but what they actually do may still be a bit of a mystery. One definition I found was, "one who assists individuals and businesses to improve their organizing systems and process.” Frankly, I don’t think that captures the essence of what a great organizer can do for you.
From my perspective, a professional organizer is a trusted confidant who will help you overcome whatever clutter, disorganization, or stress-inducing challenge you’re facing that takes up way too much mental energy. Some people I’ve talked to think it feels indulgent to have a person come into their home to help them organize their space, followed by a comment like, “I got myself into this mess, I should really be the one to fix it.” And to that I think, why beat yourself up about it? We all have busy lives and sometimes keeping our homes tidy can feel unmanageable, especially if you’re facing a major life event. There is nothing to be ashamed of and it's perfectly acceptable - even healthy - to ask for help getting back into a productive groove.
