My Favorite Things

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens

Brown paper packages tied up with strings….”

That’s lovely for Julie Andrews, but my list is a little different. This year, despite a few ‘supply chain hiccups’ along the way, I had the pleasure of purchasing several pieces, items, and products on behalf of my clients. Most of the items were a hit but a handful stood out as major winners. Without further ado, here is my 2022 list of favorite things for organizing and decorating your home:

Zip Folios: Recycle those grimy looking ziplock bags and use zip folios instead for those wonky little items. I’m a big fan of using these for puzzle and game pieces because they maintain their shape, you can easily see what’s in it, and the kids can easily access the contents. Plus, you can get fancy and use a filing cabinet (or system) to further store and organize these.

Shimo Storage Boxes: These translucent bins are fantastic and my go-to choice for toy storage. If you don’t like the look of clear bins because it can still look messy but you want to easily identify what goes in which bins, this will work for you. I usually add a clear label to make it even easier to find things - and I think it looks chicer than a standard white label.

Parker Toy Storage Cubby: For most playroom challenges, a low cubby is a great solution for storage. I love this one from Pottery Barn because it can be paired with other pieces in the collection, it’s a great size, and is quite durable compared to cheaper versions.

Clairemont Oval Coffee Table: This beautiful coffee table from Crate & Barrel looks fantastic in person but more importantly, is a great shape for most living rooms. It’s the perfect solution if you don’t want a round one but are afraid of having sharp corners with little ones around.

Delray Chair: I like a lot of West Elm items, but especially the Delray chair. It’s like Goldilocks: not too big, not too small -  just right. Plus there are tons of fabric choices and 2 leg stains so you can customize it for your room without the price tag of most stores. Did I mention it’s actually comfortable to sit on, too?

Oxford White by Benjamin Moore: I know Chantilly Lace is having a moment, but don’t sleep on oxford white. Known for being a versatile white with a slightly cool cast, it works for most decor styles. As Architectural Digest says, “If you’re looking for a modern white that doesn’t appear too gray, then this is the perfect color for you.”

So, there you have it - my 2022 list of favorite things. If you ever need advice or help selecting items for your home, I’d love to help. Who knows, maybe some of your favorite things will be on next year’s list.
